The best way to ensure the tightness of cloth is to fully pull the awning down to the bottom, on a warm day and hose both sides of the cloth. The sun will dry the moisture and then tighten the cloth. Please note many modern cloths are now available which don't require hosing down which is a blessing with water restrictions in place, remember a polyester or nylon cloth is better served.
The essential requirement with awnings is to make sure they are retracted into the hood or box when dry.
Do not retract whilst still wet, allow them to dry first.
